Title: Aspiring Vegan Bodybuilder
At the age of 33, my focus on fitness and nutrition became more than just a means to fight a lifelong battle with obesity; it became a way of healing my body and striving for health, strength and longevity through natural means. In 2005, I began searching for vegetarian/vegan cookbooks and stumbled upon Thrive, written by professional vegan Ironman triathlete Brendan Brazier. This became the turning point of my life where I not only opened a new chapter, but I closed an old and destructive past.
In October of 2005 I was blessed with having Brendan Brazier agree to work with me on a documentary film about my quest to become a vegan bodybuilder called “The Vegan Transformation”. Brendan became my vegan guru, my coach, my nutritionist and my therapist to help me overcome my eating disorder. After discussing my condition with Brendan, he suggested that I take a Vega shake twice a day. Vega is a meal replacement that contains very rich plant based nutrients and to my complete amazement, within two months I felt like I was in a new body. I had a new vitality with an energy that I had only felt as a child.
The ease of carrying Vega with me has made it so that I never go hungry. The bars fit well in any purse or gym bag, and I can eat one before my workouts and drink my Vega shake after. I can even make an active drink for during my workouts that consists of apple juice and a scoop of Vega. As my fitness vocation continues to grow, and as my body becomes healthier and stronger, I have Vega to thank because it quite literally became my elixir of life.Gen Carisse, Aspiring Vegan Bodybuilder and Star of The Vegan Transformation
